My mom and dad retired about 10 years ago and they decided to move to Lakeland, Florida.
Lakeland is a city in the Tampa Bay region.
It is halfway between Tampa and Orlando. The city is actually quite big. There are lots of lakes and canals for my dad to fish and my mom finds a lot of activities in the city like crafting and yoga. I decided to go to visit my parents last summer for the first time. I flew into Orlando and my mom and dad had to come pick me up. It wasn’t a very long drive to get to Lakeland, thankfully, because it was extremely hot and humid in the car. My dad had the window down and he didn’t seem to be bothered by the heat and humidity. When we got back to the house, I realized that my mom and dad’s condo did not have central heat or air conditioning. They had a couple of window AC units. I knew that it was going to be a challenge to spend a week with my parents in the hot Lakeland sun, but I didn’t think I was going to have to do that without any air conditioning. I was supposed to be there for a week. After 2 days I told my mom and dad that I needed to have an air conditioner in my bedroom. They told me that I could sleep on the couch, but I went to the hardware store and bought a cheap $99 air conditioner to put in the window. It made the rest of my stay much more enjoyable.
