Having a whole-home dehumidifier installed

In Plano, Texas, the humidity can be a major problem.

The summers tend to be especially hot and muggy.

When the temperature soars into the high nineties, the excess of moisture in the air makes it feel even hotter. I noticed that I was continually lowering the thermostat setting, because my home felt sticky. This forced the air conditioner to run for longer cycles and use more energy. My electric bills skyrocketed and yet I wasn’t enjoying ideal comfort. Adding to the workload of the air conditioner didn’t fix the problem. I tried a portable dehumidifier and wasn’t happy with it. It only affected a single room and the reservoir filled up very quickly. When there is excess humidity in the air, there can be issues with mold, mildew and bacterial growth. Dust mites and cockroaches thrive in hot and moist environments. Along with inferior comfort, lethargy and difficulty sleeping, I worried about health risks from polluted air quality. I finally consulted with an HVAC contractor located in Plano. The technician recommended that I have a whole-home dehumidifier installed. The indoor air quality accessory works by pulling moisture out of the air as it passes through the ductwork. It operates almost silently, efficiently and 24/7. It only requires annual maintenance. Having the dehumidifier installed has made a huge improvement. I’ve been able to set a higher thermostat setting and yet the house feels wonderfully cool. The air conditioner isn’t working as hard or running as often. My electric bills are significantly lower. I’ve also noticed that the air inside the house seems fresher, and I’m no longer dealing with musty smells.
