I live in Elgin, IL which is under an hour outside of Chicago… It is a genuinely great site to live. It is quite safe and there are a lot of things to do… One thing that keeps people away is the weather though. Our weather scares people away since it gets quite chilly here. It drops below chilly and snow is a standard occurrence. I have friends who live down south that will never visit while I was in the colder times. I assume they are missing out. I couldn’t imagine residing in an section that is tepid 24/7. I have a friend that doesn’t even own an cooling system… What about a white Christmas? What About sledding, ice skating and making snowmen? I think I could not handle it if I only relied on cooling. I would get aggravated by the heat, but my whole family runs quite hot. When the summer time hits, it is brutal on us. That is why I am ecstatic our weather has a short summer time season and then it is mainly cooler weather. I appreciate that I can get by with a light jacket and pants most of the year. I don’t mind running our gas furnace all the time. I splurged and all of us own a hydronic oil furnace. This takes a boiler, piping and it is run underneath the floors. You don’t hear the gas furnace or see it, you assume it under your feet. It is gentle, even tepid throughout the whole house. Who could have a complication with that? It makes for a good morning when the tiles are toasty warm.
